PROJECT INFORMATION

Project Implementer: Holistic Solutions s.r.o.

Donor: Czech Development Cooperation

Implementation period: 2025

BASELINE STATE

The Alto Huallaga region in the Peruvian Amazon mountain forest is one of the country's socio-economically disadvantaged areas. Historically, it has been linked to illegal coca production and violence, which has hindered the development of legal businesses. Although the situation is gradually improving, the region continues to struggle with poverty, unemployment, and a lack of sustainable livelihoods. The local economy lacks diversification and is primarily based on low-value primary agriculture.

Commercial utilization of local mushrooms is minimal; they are only available on the market in limited quantities, gathered exclusively from the wild, while most mushroom products are imported. Similarly, medicinal plants are predominantly used in their raw, unprocessed form.

PROJECT AIM AND DEVELOPMENT ASPECTS

The objective of the project was to develop a feasibility study focused on the commercial utilization of local mushrooms and medicinal plants in the Alto Huallaga region. This study assessed the technical, economic, and legislative feasibility of their cultivation, processing, and export.

The development goal was to establish the foundation for a sustainable business model that offers local communities a legal source of income, strengthens local value chains, facilitates the transfer of know-how, and enables long-term business cooperation between Peruvian producers and a Czech business entity, all while ensuring environmental protection.

ROLE OF HOLISTIC SOLUTIONS S.R.O IN THE PROJECT

In cooperation with the Peruvian partner UNAS, the Holistic Solutions team developed a feasibility study focused on evaluating field research data, analyzing both the Czech and Peruvian markets, and proposing business and technological solutions for the implementation phase.

HS connected Czech expertise with local stakeholders and identified suitable Peruvian business partners. Drawing on HS's extensive experience with B2B development projects and exporting to the EU, the team designed a business model and ensured its compliance with international market requirements.
